High Speed Motor Launch, Mettoy, England.
Original vintage tin plate "High Speed Motor Launch" clockwork boat. The toy is marked "Mettoy" and "Made In Gt. Britain". The box is marked with the Mettoy trade mark and with the manufacturers number No. 6602. The boat is illustrated in 1950's Mettoy catalogues. I've included the relevant page from the 1953 catalogue along with photographs of the boat above.
Mechanism:- Clockwork / Wind-Up motor with integral key (the searchlight).
Action:- Clockwork boat with steering.
Size:- box 8.00 x 3.00 x 2.50 inches approx.
Condition:- In very good condition, appears new and unused. Unfortunately, the boat is missing the yellow plastic tiller which you can see illustrated in the catalogue page. I suspect this is why the toy has remained in such good condition, possibly staying unsold as a result. If you can find a donor boat in poor condition, with the relevant part, this would be an excellent example. The box is also in good condition with all flaps present. Please refer to photos.
