Dump Truck, Asahi/Swallow Toys, Japan.
Original remote control tin plate 'Dump Truck' from Asahi/Swallow Toys, Japan. The toy itself is not marked but the box carries both Asahi and Swallow Toys Trade marks. Dates to the 1960's. All tin plate except for the rubber tyres. Lovely quality toy made from a large number of different pressings. It must have been very expensive to produce.
Mechanism:- Battery operated. Remote control.
Action:- Complex action with two modes via switch at rear of vehicle. 1. Standard forward/backward motion with steering via remote. 2. Elevation of truck bed via remote. It also has a flashing light in exhaust.
Size:- 10.00 inches long approx.
Condition:- In very good condition. Working order. It does not appear to have been played with. The steering is very stiff due to the lubricant in the control wire casing hardening. I've lubricated it as much as is possible (I uses clock oil which shouldn't harden) so hopefully this will improve over time. Swapping from one control mode to the other can be a little tricky. There is a tendency for the mechanism to jam but it frees up again without too much trouble. The box is also in very good condition. Please see photos (open in new tab/window to see full size image).
