Microfossil Sample Slide - Miocene, Blue Clay, Malta.

Exceptional sample largely composed of fossil foraminifera, both planktonic (floating) and benthonic (bottom dwelling).

This sample slide is the result of much boiling and sieving of sample rock. It takes several hours to produce (depending on rock type). The slide is hand made from several layers of card with a glass cover slip inserted from the side to cover the sample. Cover slips are very fragile but easily and cheaply replaced. The cover slip can be moved sideways (with care) if you want to extract the sample to view on a petri dish etc.
