Playplax Squares.
Forty eight transparent interlocking squares in original box.
Playplax was designed by Patrick Rylands for Trendon Toys in 1967. Rylands was a part-time designer and teacher at the Hornsey College of Art who was originally working on prefabricated parts for the construction industry. He had the idea of miniaturizing these parts to make a toy. The original version of Playplax included plastic squares only. Slightly later, 1968, sets with cylindrical parts were also produced.
Playplax won a Design Centre award in 1967 (see logo on the box).
