R 107 Airship, Kohno Kakuso, Japan.
Original vintage tin plate clockwork 'R 107 Airship' toy from the 1930's. The actual airship on which this toy is modelled was the R 101 which crashed in France in 1930. The tin plate pressings are printed 'R 107' and 'G-FAAW' and also with RAF roundels. Also marked with the Kohno Kakuso propeller trade mark and "Foreign". It's not known why the toy is marked R 107 rather than R 101 (possibly to dissociate the toy from the crash). These toys were originally supplied boxed, this example is unboxed.
Mechanism:- Clockwork / Wind-Up motor. Fixed key.
Action:- 'Flying' toy which hangs from a thread and is powered by the propeller in a circle.
Size:- 6.50 inches long approx.
Condition:- The toy is in remarkably good condition for a pre WWII toy and in working order. The celluloid propellor, which is usually missing, is in tact, and the small tin plate hook for suspending the toy is still attached. Please refer to photograph.
